The decal sheet for this is frightening there are so many decals to go on and some of them are the size of a pin head!

Building the Harrier was not as difficult as I thought it might be, the skills level that Airfix have assigned to this model is a 3, there were  102 pieces to put together. It took me a while to finish this model because I would make so much of it then leave it for weeks and go back to it. Once I’d got it altogether It was time to add the decals, which I really wasn’t looking forward to, They took a long time to add, I would only add a few at a time, I tried to start with the smallest ones. I would leave days or weeks between adding the decals.

For me leaving weeks between making the model as great, It meant I had the fun of making it and because of the difficulty of it, It wasn’t too intense.

Here is a bit of history about the Harrier:
Harrier II is a second-generation vertical/short takeoff and landing jet aircraft. The Harrier was primarily used for light attack or multi-role tasks, and are often operated from small aircraft carriers. 143 were built in total. They Introduced in 1989 retired in March 2011.

Building this model was enjoyable, it was different from building a plane or a motorbike, There were quite a few pieces to put together and the helicopter is mostly one colour so that paining wasn’t a hard job.

Putting the decals on wasn’t too much of a fiddly job, there were a few tiny ones that were difficult to get in the right place but I managed it and I think the lynx looks ok.

The Westland Lynx is a British multi-purpose military helicopter designed and built by Westland Helicopters at its factory in Yeovil. It went into operational usage in 1977 and is still used in the military today. The Lynx was the world’s first fully aerobatic helicopter.

This is me with a Westland Lynx Helicopter, aboard HMS Dragon when it was docked at Liverpool.

I found the Vought Corsair very easy to put together, It didn’t take me as long to make as the motorbike I made before this. It was also very simple to paint because It was just one plain colour all over.

Heres a bit of history about the Vought Corsair:

The Vought Corsair is a US plane, they were produced from 1942 -1953 and there were 12,571 built. They were used in the Royal Navy as well as other armed forces in other countries.  In 1943 the Royal Navy received 95 Vought Corsairs, because of the limited hangar deck height in several classes of British carrier, many Corsairs had their outer wings “clipped” by 8 in (200 mm) to clear the deckhead.The aircrafts were used during World War II, at the end of World War II, under the terms of the Lend-Lease agreement, the aircraft had either to be paid for or to be returned to the U.S. The UK did not have the means to pay for them so the Royal Navy Corsairs were pushed overboard into the sea in Moreton Bay off Brisbane, Australia.

I really enjoyed making this model because up to now I’d only made airfix models that were planes and this was something different, to add to the challenge the model came with no instructions on how to put it together, all the other airfix models i’ve made have had instructions and i’ve more or less followed them.  I could of gone online and found someone sharing the instructions but I didn’t because I decided it would be a good challenge and an achievement that if once I’d finished making it turned out ok.

It was a bit fiddly making it without the instructions but I managed ok, there were a couple of parts I had no idea what they were or where they went, my other half was a mechanic so he told me what the parts were apart from one which is a tiny part and I still don’t know what it was, but the bike still looks great.

Airfix don’t sell the BSA C15 Star Airfix model any more, the only motorbike model they do at the time of writing this is the Ducatai which is a 1/12 scale which you can find here.. Ducatai Airfix Model

The Fairey Swordfish is another 1/72 scale but is larger than the Sopwith pup and the Spitfire, I still find it fascinating seeing the size difference between the planes.

Building this model was a bit easier than build the Sopwith pup because I was working with bigger parts.

Here is a bit of history about the Fairey Swordfish:
Fairey Swordfish was a torpedo bomber built by the Fairey Aviation Company  and used during the Second World War by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy, the Fairey Swordfish  sank one and damaged two battleships of the Italian Navy in the Battle Of Taranto, the Swordfish was also part of the famous crippling of the Bismarck.
The Fairey Swordfish outlived several types of planes intended to replace it, and stayed in front line service until VE Day.
There were 2,391 Swordfish made and was retired on 21st May 1945

I have to admit that I kept calling it Soap With Pup despite having the box in front of me, I’ve now got it into my head that it’s a Sopwith Pup not a Soap With.

The Sopwith pup is a lot smaller than the Spitfire I made, they are both 1/72 scale. It’s nice that I get a perspective of the size difference in real life.

Here is a bit of history about the Sopwith Pup:
It was a British single seater biplane fighter aircraft and was built by the Sopwith Aviation Company, It went into service with the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service in autumn 1916. There were 1,770 planes made between 1916 and 1918.

Building models wasn’t anything i ever thought of doing myself, when I was little I used to watch my brother make airfix models on the kitchen table.

I quite enjoyed making it, I’m a creative person so this kind of thing is right up my alley, since then i’ve made quite a few models. Which you can see on here.

The Spitfire is 1/72 Scale.
